I am a Non-EU national. Can I apply for
work at S&A?
Due to current legislation we are
unable to employ you unless you fall under criteria allowing you to work in
the United Kingdom.
I worked at S&A before. I would
like to work at S&A again. How can I re-apply?
We will send you an invitation by email by the
end of November. Please check your e-mail regularly. If you have not received
an e-mail by then or have not had any contact by S&A Staff, please get in
touch with your country Recruitment Coordinator.
What is URN? Will I need it later?
URN is a Unique Reference Number. It is
identical to a Username. Every application form has a Unique Reference
Number. It is very important to make a note of your URN/ Username and
password as you will need them to check the status of your application at a
later stage. You will also need to quote your Username when you make an inquiry
about your application.
What is Group Reference Number? Why do
I need it?
This number helps us to identify a group
of people wishing to travel/ arrive together. A Group Reference Number is
either generated by clicking a relevant button on your application form, or by
entering manually. If you are the first one among your friends to complete an
application form and generate a Group Reference Number, please ensure that you
let your friends/ family know it, so they can enter the same number on their
application forms.
How long does it take to receive an
e-mail with login details?
Your login details get sent to your mobile number and e-mail which you provide on your application form. It may take up to 5 minutes
for message and the e-mail to reach you. Should you have not received the login
details please contact your Recruitment
Coordinator .
My password doesn’t work. What should I
do?
Copy and paste your password from the message you received from us. If this is still not working contact your
country Recruitment Coordinator.
Could someone else complete an
application for me?
We insist that the information entered
on your application form has been seen and authorized by you. It is your
responsibility to ensure that all the information entered on your behalf is
correct.
Can my friends and I share one
application form?
All applicants have to complete their
own application form. If you wish to travel with your friends/ family please
use the Group Ref Number function to enable S&A to identify your group.
QUESTIONS RELATED TO ARRIVAL AND
EMPLOYMENT AT S&A
I am under 18. Can I apply for work at
S&A?
No, due to Health and Safety and Home
Office legislation we do not recruit anybody less than 18 years of age.
How long is the contract for?
Work is seasonal and the length of
employment may be variable. The company aims to retain the most
productive workers.
Can I have a non-picking job at
S&A?
Although there are some non-picking
jobs carried out at the farm, we cannot guarantee these jobs to you. There is a
limited number of non-picking jobs at the farm. They will be allocated subject
to suitability. All applicants must be prepared to undertake picking
jobs.
Can you get me a job with another
company?
No, we are recruiting for S&A needs
only.
Is it possible to earn more than the
minimum hourly rate?
Positions that require special skills
are paid at a higher hourly rate. However, we operate a bonus scheme on a
variety of jobs, allowing workers to potentially earn more than the basic
hourly rate depending on their productivity.
What are the productivity targets? Will
I be able to achieve them?
The productivity target for picking is
an amount of trays you need to pick within 1 hour.
We are experienced growers and know
what an average picker should be able to achieve. The targets are set daily
depending on nature of the crop. It is in both the company’s and workers’
interest for productivity bonus to be achieved.
Do I have to pay for transport to/ from
the field?
No, the company provides free
transportation to and from work to S & A campsites. Anyone not living in an
S&A campsite will have to make their own way to work.
Can I travel on the same date as my
friends/ family? (Please see ‘What is Group Reference Number? Why do I need
it?’)
Yes, you can. To enable us to issue you
with the same arrival date we need you to put the same Group Reference Number
as your friends’/ family’s Group Reference Number on your application.
How much money should I bring with me?
We have found that every person’s needs
are different, therefore spending requirements may vary. We think that £50-100
should be enough until you receive your first payment providing that you are
careful with what you spend. This is only a guideline and should not be seen as
a rule.
Can I be paid in cash at the time I am
working at S&A?
No, all company employees are paid by
electronic transfer into their UK bank account. If you do not have one we will open it for you ( we work with One Pay).
Can I arrive in my car?
No, workers are not allowed to bring
their cars, as stated in the campsite rules.
Can I bring my child with me?
No, the farm is a working environment
and not suitable for children. Accommodation at S&A is only available for
people working at S&A.
Can I take my pet with me?
No, under UK legislation pets
are only allowed to be brought to the UK if they remain in the
quarantine for the first 6 months.
When does picking start?
Our picking season starts at the middle
of March.
Can I live and work together with my
friends?
Group Reference Number helps us to
identify friends/ family that are coming together. We will try to arrange
accommodation so you are able to live together, however we cannot always
guarantee this.
Can I move from one campsite to
another?
Yes, business needs dictate that we
need to move workers from one campsite to the other (For example, first
strawberry crop at Hernhill Nursery, Kent starts slowing down in the middle of
May. This is the time when we move workers from Hernhill Nursery to Brook Farm,
Marden or Brierley Court.) Should you wish to move from one campsite
in Hereford to the other during the season you will need to make a
request to the liaison officer.
